About Jens Christian or Kanute or K Peterson's name - an explanation
In 1955, there was much discussion about the K in Jens Petersen's name. Some of the relatives were sure it was for Kristian, though they couldn't remember how they knew that. Others were just as sure it was Knut, but had no sources for that, either. They went to one of his sons who was still living, Alex, and asked him. His answer "Father just gave himself the initial K in order to distinguish himself from another man living near by with the same name - Jens Peterson." So in church records, etc. from then on it was Jens K. Another consequence of the family coming to America was the spelling of Petersen. In Denmark it was always Petersen with an e. Danish and Norwegian were always with "e". And "o" in son denoted Swedish. However, in the church records, they didn't bother to show the distinction and all "sons" were spelled with an o. Our relatives just went along with that . . . . Karen Hansen - 26 Jun 2018. by Lamb, Tyler David
additional information regarding the name Jens Kanute Petersen:
Reason This Information Is Correct
I have the Temple Books for Jens K. Peterson. He always signed his name either Jens or Jens K. NEVER did he use the name Jens Kanute, whereas all the children, relatives, etc. had full middle names. Jens told his son, Alex(ander) that the K was only an initial and did not stand for any name.

Although he always used only the inital "K" it seems his official name is Jens Kanute Peterson including some records in church history and emigration. -- 24 Apr 2017 Tyler David Lamb.
